FLAMBOYANT businesswoman Margo Grimshaw plans to transform a Blackburn street into a reveller's paradise.

Market Street Lane will be turned into the town's very own Leicester Square, says Margo.

Margo, who owns the street's Never Never Land and the recently opened Zy-Bar, has already started a £250,000 redevelopment on her Generations nightclub.

Plans include moving the entrance from behind the nightclub on to Market Street Lane and revitalising the upstairs into a modern day bar.

Margo, who also runs the nearby Bar Ibiza, which opened around nine months ago, said: "My ultimate intention is to make the area safe for people to come down and visit even if they don't want a drink. Then at least they can come and have a look at the place.

"My ambition is to revitalise this part of town because it needs smartening up a lot. It's all part of the town's regeneration scheme."

Margo said she planned upgrading the derelict upstairs of the nightclub into a huge bar catering for around 700 people. And she said there were also plans to pedestrianise the road.

Speaking about the changes the area has seen in recent years, Margo added: "I know people are sorry to see these old names and places disappear but unfortunately the people who went in them years ago don't come into town any more."

Margo has even suggested plans to change the name of the street to give it a more upmarket appeal.

Blackburn town centre manager Paul Isherwood said: "We are talking with Margo about what we can do as part of the town centre action plan in that area which will regenerate her business and other buildings in that area.

"But at the same time we must consider what is best for other businesses, taxi drivers and the community as a whole.

"What we are trying to do is improve the image of Darwen Street and its surrounding area and we are looking towards the Cathedral as a theme for this part of town.

"Margo has her own ideas like all the other businesses round there and we are all talking to each other but Margo is very much on board with the council's agenda."
