THERE were only seven matches played last Saturday concerning Combination clubs and four games were played on Sunday.

Sunday's matches included the long-delayed LCFA Sunday Intermediate Cup second round game between Rose and Crown and Skelmersdale's Kiani FC. This match went into extra-time with a 1-1 deadlock and stayed that way up to the penalty shoot-out which the St Helens club won 4-2 to go into round three.

Three league games took place, these being an 8-3 home win for Owens Corning over Bold Miners, a narrow 4-3 win at Parr Stocks for East Sutton Labour over Ex Services United and a similar scoreline decided the game at Grange Park, between York and Sutton Heath Panthers, in favour of York.

On Saturday, in the Premiership, Shoe, with goals from Carl Chisnall, Mal Saunders and a soaring header from Dave Wardlaw, just held out to beat Nutgrove 3-2 after Nutgrove let a 2-0 lead drift away. Penlake Juniors, with a couple apiece from Mark Carrigg and Kev McNabb and others by Chris Marsh and John Abbott, were easy winners, 6-1 over Sidac Social.

In Division One, only one game got underway. Broad Oak's slide continued with a 0-2 home defeat by goals from Chris Wiggins and Jason Dwyer for Billinge Reserves.

In Division Two's first game, Joey Murphy (2) and Neil Ody scored three fine goals between them for Bold Miners, but they could not prevent a 3-5 home defeat by Bull and Dog. In the second game, Ramford Rangers' 100 per cent efforts could not prevent another defeat, Cowley Hill Park Reserves, the present league leaders beat them 8-0 at Parr Stocks.

In Garswood Trophies Hospital Cup round two ties, only one got off the ground, this being a 4-2 home win for Pilkington A over Bowling Green, who gave the Ruskin lads a torrid time.

The last game played was a 6-2 home win for Earlestown over Convocation Liverpool in the Northern Cup Competition first round, Lee Marsden (2), Rich Spafford (2), Darren Moore and Lee Ward doing the damage.

The Lancashire FA under 18s first round inter-league tie against Bolton Boys Federation will take place, weather permitting, at Ruskin Drive, this Saturday kick-off 1.30pm.

The players are asked to report there at 12.30pm (wearing shirt and tie please).

Contrary to the usual practice, because of the back-log of fixtures crisis, no club will be allowed to cancel their fixture on Saturday because of player representation. This is a management decision as per rule, if necessary.

The under 18s squad have been drawn away to South Lancs Counties at Robin Park, Wigan in December in the Liverpool CFA Inter League Championship. RESULTS
