KNOWSLEY Council has set up truancy telephone hot-line which local people can ring to leave details on pupils they suspect may be skipping school.
The hot-line -- Freephone number 0800 073 6161 -- is part of an initiative to develop community intolerance to school truancy and complements other projects like the Authorised Absence Pass.
Schools should issue the passes to pupils who need to leave school during lesson times.
Local shops and businesses are also involved in the scheme and pupils visiting shops may be asked to show their authorised pass.
