TRAINS on the Wigan North Western and Manchester Victoria routes to and from Liverpool Lime Street are back on track following a landslide at the Olive Mount cutting (between Broad Green and Wavertree Technology Park), on Monday, November 6.
Railtrack engineers and contractors worked round the clock for a week to reopen the line on Monday, November 13.
As well as the 3,000 tonnes of sandstone blocks, clay and topsoil, which is estimated to have fallen on to the tracks in the original landslide, a further 800 tonnes of 'backfill' soil was removed from the land behind the walls to relieve pressure and prevent more damage.
