YOUNGSTERS from across St Helens braved adverse weather to take part in a two-day introduction to horse riding at Burrows Lane Farm/Equestrian Centre.
The centre was set up a year ago by 22-year-old former De La Salle High pupils, Leanne Ryan and Sarah Algee, with help from Business Skills St Helens and a Prince's Trust grant.
They now hold classes for adults and young people, but also offer a special two-day beginners course for children during every school holiday.
Leanne, who also lives on Burrows Farm with her parents, John and Margaret, said: "We had about 30 children on the latest course and we go through the basics, from how to get on a horse through to riding around and learning how to look after them.
"I always had horses as a child and I knew I wanted to work with them as well.
"Fortunately, there was enough land on the farm to start up the centre and, hopefully, these courses will show children how rewarding it is to work with and care for horses."
