SIGNALLER Glen Clifton-Sprigg is already making his mark in the army -- just 12 weeks after signing up!

For the 20-year-old former Cowley High pupil won the trophy for 'Best Recruit' in his training troop and received an engraved pewter tankard at his passing-out parade from inspecting officer, Brigadier Cedric J Burton, OBE ADC, Royal Signals.

Glen, who joined the The Royal Corps of Signals in July, has just completed his basic training at the Army Training Regiment Bassingbourn.

During the the arduous 12-week course, Glen was instructed in a wide range of subjects covering physical training, first aid, map reading, survival techniques and marksmanship principles.

He also spent a week adventure training in Wales where he learned to rock climb, abseil, canoe and navigate using a map and compass.

He said: "Joining the army has been great, and I get the chance to play lots of sport. I'm hoping to become an officer one day".

Glen will now continue his training at The Royal School of Signals, Blandford, Dorset, where he will train to become a systems technician and will receive specialist instruction in a variety of technical subjects before joining his first unit.
