A 21-year-old Bury man is still being interviewed in connection with last Thursday's brutal murder of a local cabbie.

The man, who has not been named, was arrested in Blackburn on Tuesday morning (Nov 14).

Detectives are also seeking a second Bury man, aged 29, who is also wanted in connection with the racial killing of Mr Tariq Javed.

The cabbie died from crush injuries when he was dragged from his taxi, beaten and then run over by his own Toyota Carina.

According to police Mr Javed (48) from Richard Burch Street, Walmersley, had been attacked by a least two men who were part of a group of five who had been in the taxi. The vehicle was later found burning in the grounds of Fairfield General Hospital.

It is believed the gang, including two juveniles who were arrested soon after the murder but released on bail pending further inquires, had been out celebrating the 21-year-old's birthday in Bury.

Mr Javed's murder sparked a weekend of unrest in the town centre as fellow taxi drivers demanded justice.
