PENDLE MP Gordon Prentice today urged the government to drop its plans to partially privatise Britain's air traffic control system after voting against them in a back bench Labour rebellion last night.
He was one of 37 Labour MPs to defy the government and oppose the sell-off.
Now, the transport bill containing the controversial proposal goes back to the Lords, who want to delay any privatisation until after the next election.
An unrepentant Mr Prentice said today: "I think the Lords will kick it out again and that the government will drop the privatisation to save the rest of the transport bill.
"The government should drop this proposal. It was not in the manifesto."
During the debate Mr Prentice expressed concern that any partially privatised air traffic control system might put profit before safety as Railtrack chief executive Gerald Corbett had admitted that his company had done soon after it was sold off.
