FYLDE MP Michael Jack did his bit to keep Lytham old folk well fed as part of the national Meals On Wheels Week. Mr Jack gave his support to the Women's Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS) on Monday to mark the start of the special week.
He said he wanted to be involved because he knows exactly what a worthwhile service Meals On Wheels is.
"My wife Alison and her friend Jill Sutton deliver meals on Christmas Day -- the only day of the year when the WRVS don't operate. So I know first hand what a good service it is," he said.
Last year WRVS delivered around 12 million meals to more than 100,000 recipients in partnership with local services, but for many individuals the delivery is also their main social contact. Vivian Gore, WRVS food services manager for Lancashire said: "Quite apart from providing a vital service, our volunteers find the work personally very rewarding." Meanwhile, in Wyre, there was a fluffing of feathers in the world of Meals On Wheels as local celebrity Keith Harris and Orville the duck also gave their support.
Keith and Orville brightened up the day for Mrs Eve Shaw, 76, from Carleton, on November 15 by delivering her daily meal to her and cheering her up with excerpts from their classic ventriloquism act.
Keith said: "Having elderly parents myself I am delighted to be able to support National Meals On Wheels Week. It provides a vital service."
