A DARWEN man is looking forward to Christmas at home after spending the last year on the high seas.
John Kay, 25, joined up 12 months ago and has circumnavigated the globe.
Since completing his professional training at HMS Collingwood six months ago, John has visited Singapore, Bangkok, Vietnam, Hong Kong, China, Russia, Korea, Tokyo, Hawaii and San Diego.
He joined the Royal Navy as an operator mechanic, specialising in communications and joined HMS Newcastle in July this year.
But looking forward to spending Christmas at home with his family, John said: "I joined the Navy to see the world. Being at sea is a lot less formal than life at a training establishment. It's amazing to travel like this and get paid for it too but I'm looking forward to seeing my friends and family."
