HUNDREDS of ex-service men and women gathered around Blackpool Cenotaph on November 12 to honour those who died in the First and Second World Wars and other conflicts.

More than 800 people came together to lay wreaths and participate in two minutes silence in remembrance of those who fell fighting for their country.

Shortly before 11am a parade made its way along the Promenade from North Pier. Blackpool Mayor, Coun Granville Heap, along with council members and officials arrived at the Cenotaph, pictured here, to music from the Blackpool Citadel Band of the Salvation Army.

At 11am a two-minute silence was observed followed by the playing of Last Post. The Mayor then led the wreath laying, which included wreaths from Members of Parliament, the services, the police and representatives of the ex-servicemen's associations.

The end of what was an emotional ceremony was marked with a spirited singing of the National Anthem by all those present. As well as the ceremony at Blackpool's Cenotaph on November 12 there were also a number of other Remembrance Day parades across the Fylde Coast.

People in St Annes attended a service in Ashton Gardens at 10.40am after a parade from the Town Hall. Lytham veterans and residents marched from Lytham Assembly Rooms, in Dicconson Terrace, to Lytham War memorial.

In Fleetwood, veterans gathered at the Royal British Legion at 10.30am and marched to the Memorial Park to lay wreaths.

A service was held for Poulton veterans at St Chad's Parish Church after they laid wreaths at the War Memorial in Market Place.

Thornton veterans paid their respects at the Cenotaph at Four Lane Ends.

There was a parade in the afternoon from Orders Lane to the Cenotaph in Kirkham for a wreath laying ceremony.

To mark Armistice Day, on November 11, the Mayor of Fylde, Paul Hayhurst, fired a maroon -- a firework used as a warning signal at sea -- on Lytham Green at 11am and another maroon was fired by Deputy Mayor Trevor Fiddler at St Annes Town Hall.

Wyre's Mayor, Jim Lawrenson, marked the occasion by firing two rockets at 11am from Fleetwood's Marine Gardens.
