YOUNG people in Blackburn with Darwen aged between 11 and 18 can take part in an event that could lead to an all-expenses-paid trip to London to meet MPs.

Blackburn with Darwen Borough Youth Service are holding a Youth Parliament Day and elections to the United Kingdom Youth Parliament on Saturday at St Mary's Sixth Form College, Shear Bank Road, Blackburn, starting at 10am.

Young people will take part in a range of workshop activities led by the Youth Service, designed to increase their knowledge of citizenship and democracy.

At the end of the day there will be elections for someone to represent Blackburn with Darwen's youth at a national level.

This will include an all-expenses-paid trip to London.

Coun Bill Taylor, Blackburn with Darwen education chairman, said: "We want to encourage young people to think and speak for themselves.

"It is important for young people to take part in the UK Youth Parliament Election Day."
