DEVELOPERS who unearthed a 115-year-old time capsule at Peel Mills came up with a historical legacy of their own featuring a package from the year 2000.

Last month a glass bottle from 1885 was found during the demolition of part of the mill. It had been hidden beneath the original date stone.

The bottle contained newspapers, including a copy of the Bury Times, coins and a company share book from the 19th Century.

The property company, Saville Gordon, and builders decided to run with similar themes in their own capsule, carefully including a copy of the Bury Times which reported their finding. Also inside were modern coins and literature.

Mr Graham Barker, regional property manager for Saville Gordon who is pictured with the 21st century time capsule, hit upon the idea. He said: "The builders were really excited when they found the capsule. They had heard of time capsules being buried at mills in the area but had never found one themselves, so thought it would be a good idea to leave one of our own."

The present day paraphernalia was placed in a jar beneath the original date stone which is to form part of the new structure at the new site.
