FOR more than 30 years world famous Geordie band Lindisfarne has been 'running for home' and entertaining hundreds of thousands of people across the globe.

The folk/rock popsters, who since 1969 have been developing their own unique and original sound, are enjoying life on the road more than ever and on November 25 you can catch them live at the Platform in Morecambe.

The nucleus of the band goes way back to when two of the band members met each other aged five on their first day at primary school.

In their teens they were known as Downtown Fashion but ever since they stepped out into the bright lights as Lindisfarne, they've never looked back.

The drummer Ray took time out to chat with The Citizen and explained that they have enjoyed becoming masters of their own destiny .

"These days we look after ourselves, put out records when it suits us, play gigs when it suits us - it's a great way to make a living," he explained.

"I reckon we're playing the best music we've ever played at the moment. We're often labelled as a folk band but we have all sorts of influences from blues, to rock and pop and play songs that are uniquely our own."

Intrinsically connected to their native North East, earlier this year they took Newcastle's millennium celebrations by storm and are famous for teaming up with Gazza for the hit "Fog on the Tyne."

It must be a bit annoying that after more than 30 years in the business a joke record done for a laugh is what they are widely remembered for but they have a legion of loyal fans who will tell you that Lindisfarne are up there with the greats.

"We're always changing our set and bringing in new arrangements to keep it interesting and fun to do," added Ray, "We know who we are and what we do. We're at the height of our creative powers and long may it continue."
