FIREFIGHTERS were called to clear a chemical spillage after a tank was damaged and started to leak.
The managing director of James Raistrick Foundry, Graham Pagett, said about three tonnes of the chemical had been spilt but it was not a health hazard.
Accrington fire service attended Blackburn Road foundry, Accrington, at 7am today to clear up the liquid, which had spread from the yard into the street.
Mr Pagett said it was thought youths had tampered with the storage tank, which contained phenol formaldehyde, a chemical used for binding sand to make moulds.
He said: "We are doing everything by the book. Most of it is contained in our yard and it's just a question of clearing it up. This stuff is not dangerous."
