Lytham St Annes 1 Springfields 2

LSA were pipped 2-1 at home to their local rivals Springfields in Division 1 for the Northern Counties Hockey League.

They conceded a goal within five minutes of the start but responded quickly and forced many penalty corners

However, their well practised routine was not working especially when Dave Hans was desperately unlucky the ball hitting the wheel of the goal post. Eventually and ironically they did score from a penalty corner when Dave Robbins scuffed flick rolled past the frustrated keeper.

LSA then played their best hockey for the last ten minutes before half-time.

The second half was much like the first and Springfields took the lead when an unmarked player slotted the ball home from close range.

Again many penalty corners were awarded to LSA all to no avail. Lytham 2nd XI 1 Sprinfields 2nd XI 3.

Normal service was resumed after a blip in the teams performance last week. Lytham actually started strongly with Gavin Gettings putting a lot of pressure on the opponents defence.

However after missing several good chances combined with an ageing defence, which in particular frustrated their goalkeeper Danny Horne, the home side scored three times before half-time.

Lytham played better in the second half with Sam Ashworth scoring with a well executed reverse stick shot at goal.

Good performances two weeks running for the Getting brothers Gavin and Gareth while Danny Horse in goal once again kept the score against as low as possible.
