A YOUNG mugger left a 75-year-old woman with serious injuries after he threw her to the floor and snatched her bag as she walked along a main road in Leigh.

The pensioner, who wishes to remain anonymous, is recovering in hospital with a broken wrist, elbow and shoulder after being mugged early on Saturday.

Detectives working on the case said she may have to have a skin graft to repair damage caused when she was dragged along the pavement by her attacker.

She was walking along Holden Road at 8am when the robber attacked her, dragged her to the ground and stole her shopping bag.

Her attacker is described as a white, in his mid to late 20s, of medium build and with dark eyebrows.

He was wearing a dark woollen peaked cap with side flaps, a black sweat shirt with Adidas motif, black jogging trousers and white trainers.

Anyone who saw the attack, or can help identify the attacker, is asked to contact Leigh CID on 0161 856 7240 or Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
