I READ with dismay the report (Nov 3) regarding Albert Gubay's withdrawal from the planned development of Elms precinct in Whitefield.

The only good thing to be said for this betrayal of Whitefield is that the Methodist Church and Elm Street Synagogue remain standing. However, a great deal could be done with the land now that most of it has been cleared. How about a small market for Whitefield?

Could not Bury Council provide Whitefield with a few of the facilities that Bury people take for granted? We too would like to be able to purchase fresh meat, fruit, vegetables, fish, clothes and shoes without having to travel to Bury for the privilege.

It is about time that more was spent here instead of being siphoned off towards Bury. Their town centre and facilities leave ours in the shade.

So come on Bury Council, commission a survey for a market. I am sure that people would welcome this.

Rydal Grove, Whitefield.
