A GOOD Samaritan was slashed across the face while trying to save a pensioner from being attacked in her home.
Last night (Thurs Nov 16), police last night sealed off a section of Church Street, Ainsworth, following the bungled burglary shortly before 6pm.
Mr Sean Brazendale (30) intervened after hearing screams from the home of Mrs Marion Chambers9 (82) One of the two intruders attacked him with a blade, possibly a Stanley knife.
Mr Brazendale, of Kingsley Street, Elton, was rushed to Blackburn Royal Infirmary, which specialises in treating severe facial injuries.
Forensic experts were last night combing the area for clues.
Police say that around £450 in cash and a metal box, containing sentimental belongings, were taken. Mrs Chambers was said to be distressed but uninjured.
Insp Karen Pinder said police wanted information about a grey Peugeot in which the men escaped. It has a registration number beginning with either J or K and including either 656 or 565. Call Bury CID on 856 8150.
