THE Red Rose county's "blooming lovely" beauty spots are highlighted in a new booklet aimed at local people and visitors alike.

The 16-page free colour guide, produced by Lancashire County Council, divides the county into six areas which show its contrasting landscapes.

County council leader, John West, said: "The Lancashire countryside is already treasured by many Lancastrians and other frequent visitors to the county. However many visitors remain largely unaware of the variety of scenery that Lancashire has to offer. This lavishly illustrated free brochure highlights the beautiful diversity together with the recreational facilities which provide greater access and increased enjoyment of our magnificent county."

The county includes two areas of outstanding natural beauty, seven country parks and a wide range of smaller areas such as picnic sites, walks and viewpoints.

Copies of the guide are available from county information centres and tourism offices or by contacting Julie Sharples at County Hall on 01772 263399.
