A CARTOON dreamed up by a local schoolgirl was set to get its TV debut today.

Rachel Cotton, 13, was among 17 winners of a national competition run by the Disney Channel where pupils from more than 4,000 school across the UK were asked to write a short story.

Of the 17 winning entries, four were to be made into dramas for the channel, five animated and eight put on the Disney website. All will feature in a national young writers' magazine.

And Rachel's entry -- the story of David and Goliath -- was set to be shown on the Disney Channel today between 9.30am and 1pm.

As part of the prize Rachel, of Moorside Avenue, Blackburn, joined the other 16 winners at the channel's studios in St John's Wood, London, to meet cartoonists, Disney presenters and animators and characters from Disney's Toy Story 2 film.

Rachel, who attend's Our Lady and St John High School, Blackburn, was also interviewed live on the Disney Channel.

Last month she also took delivery of a giant cardboard computer.

Mum Jane said: "We got a phone call and the next day we had it delivered. I don't know what it's for but it's taking up my living room!"
