STOCKPORT striker IAN Moore is set to become Burnley's first £1m signing.

The Clarets have agreed a fee with their Division One rivals for the forward and full details will emerge last week.

Stan Ternent has been chasing the forward for several weeks although initial bids were knocked back by Stockport.

But now it appears that Stan has got his man -- and for a knock-down price.

The Clarets had a club record £1.25 million bid for County's leading scorer rejected last month.

But Moore's proposed £1 million move to Norwich City collapsed this week and that tempted Burnley to come back into the race for the in the 24-year-old.

Ternent has obviously been looking to strengthen his squad and last week allowed strikers Alan Lee and Phil Gray to leave Turf Moor.

But it had seemed that Moore was one target that would slip away. Ternent refused to speak about the sitaution yesterday.

Just this Thursday Norwich had agreed a £1 million fee with Stockport for their prized asset.

But with Moore keen to speak with other clubs, City boss Bryan Hamilton scratched the former Nottingham Forest and Tranmere front man off his shopping list.

Meanwhile, Birmingham City manager Trevor Francis paid tribute to Burnley's impressive start to the season ahead of their clash at St Andrews this afternoon.

He said: "I believe they have done far better than even they would have expected to have done.

"Along with Preston they are up there challenging in the top six and doing very well. "In a league that, as we know, is so competitive, for Burnley to have made the start they have done is a tremendous effort and their manager Stan Ternent must be delighted with the start they have made."

Francis, whose side were one place below the Clarets before kick-off today, added: "When we didn't play last week it gave them the opportunity to jump ahead of us in the table, which they did with a convincing win over Sheffield United.

"They have some very experienced players in their line-up and they are a tough team to beat. They don't give too much away.

"The defeat at Nottingham Forest was their only bad result, I would say, all season. They are very consistent. They keep a lot of clean sheets and they will make it hard for us.
