THERE was standing room only as hundreds packed St Joseph's RC Church, Stacksteads, for the funeral of Andrew Gordon.

Father-of-one Mr Gordon, 34, of Acre View, Stacksteads, died in the Royal Preston Hospital on October 26 after suffering head injuries in an incident in the street near his home five days earlier.

A Requiem Mass was celebrated by Father Philip Boast who told recounted a meeting with Andrew describing his as 'always having a friendly word to say' something he says was a remarkable and precious gift.

Paulinus Barnes, a former Rossendale Councillor, led the congregation in prayers for the family. Floral tributes included a display spelling out the word dad.

He leaves his girlfriend Suzanne, his six-year-old son Tom, his parents Peggy and James, his brother David, and sisters Clare, Susan and Julia.

Mr Gordon worked at Mania Technologies International, Haslingden, and had played for Stacksteads Football Club.

Ian Wright, 21, also of Acre View, Stacksteads, appeared in court for a second time on Tuesday and his case was adjourned until December 12.

He is charged with wounding with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
