ALAN Street -- the only man in Britain who can perform the 'quad Salchow', a four-rotation jump -- warmed up for next week's British Nationals with a fourth-place finish at Norway's Grand Prix.

Street, who trains at Blackburn ice arena, was delighted with his placing against some of the world's top skaters.

The British Nationals begin in two weeks' time and the 18-year-old, who is in the British Olympic squad, is one of the favourites for the senior men's title.

Street, whose training partner and flatmate Zoe Jones is a hot-favourite to take the women's title in Ayr, has just returned from Croatia's Grand Prix, where she finished fifth.

After struggling with injuries for the past two years, 20-year-old Jones not only came through unscathed, but beat some of the women who had competed in the European Championships last year while she was out injured.

Joy Sutcliffe, coach for both Street and Jones, said: "They did really, really well. Zoe was a bit cautious at first because of all the time she has been out injured but as she went on she got stronger.

"I obviously don't want to talk them up too much ahead of the British Nationals but they are skating excellently at the moment and unless something goes disastrously wrong they are well on course for the Nationals."
