MORE flood prevention work is under way in West Craven and funding for further action in the new year has been agreed by Lancashire County Council.

Improved drainage and flood diversion work at Earby will allow the local pumping station to clear more water out of the danger area.

Local County Councillor David Whipp, said he hoped the work would help avoid more misery for scores of flood victims in Barnolds- wick and Earby.

"The County have also agreed to carry out regular maintenance work to prevent a culvert under the railway embankment becoming blocked."

Coun Whipp added: "In Barnoldswick, the county council have agreed to fund £19,000-worth of drainage work on Skipton Road.

"Hopefully, this should reduce the threat to homes on the Ghyll Meadows estate. This work is planned for the new year."

At Pendle's last full council meeting, Councillor Whipp paid tribute to Pendle engineer Brian Holmes, council staff and others for their work during last month's floods.

"In particular, Mr Holmes has worked very hard to reduce the risk of future flooding," he said.

The council agreed to place on record their appreciation of all the efforts made to fight the floods.
