AT last, the government has promised a Bill on hunting.
It pledged at the state opening of Parliament that MPs will have a free vote. Yet, because ministers are giving hunts a year's period to wind up their affairs, the final ban on fox-hunting will not be effective until 2003.
This means another 100,000 mammals cruelly killed each year. Animal welfare groups have fought for years for such a Bill and it's time this barbarity was stopped. It has no place in modern society.
