HINDLEY boxer Mark Paxford took another step along his promising professional career path when he returned to the ring last week.

The 21-year-old light-middleweight won his latest bout in sensational style with a technical k.o., showing he had learned from the disappointment of only drawing on his professional debut back in September.

Trainer Damian Jones of Ringwise Boxing explains: "Mark was bitterly disappointed to only draw against Colin McCash of Accrington on his pro debut at Wrexham.

"The majority of the crowd thought Mark had won a hard and gruelling contest by a couple of rounds but the referee felt differently and scored the contest even.

"Mark was determined not to let the same thing happen again. On last week's card at Oldham he left nothing to chance and made sure the scorecards were not needed.

"His opponent was Paddy Martin from Nuneaton and a large army of fans from Hindley saw Mark dominate the contest for two rounds before knocking his opponent down in the third with a tremendous left hook to the body.

"The referee immediately stopped the fight when it became clear Martin would not beat the count. I was delighted by Mark's performance. He had learned a lot from his debut contest in September.

"He boxed a controlled fight and showed he had the power to end a contest early, especially with his left hook to the body, which is his best punch."

Paxford will now take a short break from training but will be back in the gym early in the New Year to prepare for his next two contests on February 4 in Wales and the first week of March in Blackpool, where he will be looking to extend his unbeaten run.
