A GROUND-breaking police operation by Leigh officers has resulted in the conviction of a heroin dealer, as reported on this page.

George Anderton, of Rothwell Road, Golborne, was sentenced to four year's imprisonment following the first ever use of a mobile CCtv system.

Surveillance officers from Leigh had watched the house during the operation in June.

The mobile video camera, provided by Wigan Council, was used to help convict Anderton by providing photographic evidence of drug deals he carried out.

Sgt Mark Bradley said: "The mobile CCtv allowed us to watch the address without officers having to be nearby and therefore we were not noticed. The CCtv system is a high quality system and has in fact been used since by the police on a number of occasions, also producing results."
