THE Lancashire District Land Registry building at Warton was officially opened last week.

Jane Kennedy, Parliamentary Secretary at the Lord Chancellor's Department, performed the opening ceremony and is pictured here at Wrea Brook Court, Lytham Road, where she unveiled a ceremonial plaque and planted a yew tree.

The tree forms the centrepiece of a garden in memory of airmen from the RAF and US Air Force based at Warton Camp who lost their lives in the Second World War.

Wrea Brook Court is built on the site of the former RAF camp which was already owned and used by the Land Registry as a filing store.

Addressing staff, the Minister commented on the steps taken to ensure the building fitted in with the original surroundings when she said: "This new building will provide a terrific working environment and deserves the public acclaim that greeted its development."

And Keith Melia, area manager at Lancashire District Land Registry, hoped that Black Bob, the ghost of a murdered US airman reputed to have been seen on the site, is happy with the new building.

"I feel sure Black Bob is as pleased as the more conventional members of staff," he said.
