ITV's "Forty Years on Coronation Street" brought back some memories of the old characters - especially the formidable Elsie Tanner.
In the early 1970s I was holidaying in San Luis, Minorca, with another couple, and towards the end of our stay we were invited to a paella afternoon with the bar staff, who locked all the doors.
They didn't open all hours then.
While we were enjoying ourselves a flame-haired woman and her partner drew up. It was Pat Phoenix and her real life and TV husband Alan Howard.
They knocked on the door but were turned away. Imagine. A bar in Spain wouldn't do that now. They'd have been welcomed with open arms by the English owner and given star treatment.
It's the first time and last time I've been put before a celebrity.
