A TEENAGE victim of a sex attack today pleaded: "Please catch the man who attacked me".

The 13-year-old girl made the emotional appeal to police investigating the attack as she walked her dog.

She was put through a terrifying experience when she was dragged on to the Hard Platts fields off Manchester Road, Nelson.

Det Sgt Peter Simm said today: "She is coping with the situation really well in view of what she went through.

"She has asked us to catch the man and has given us a detail description of the clothing he was wearing."

Police have issued a drawing (pictured) of the clothing which they believed may help to catch the attacker.

He was wearing a black baseball cap pulled down over his face and a distinctive black bubble type jacket.

Det Sgt Simm said: "We believe him to live locally. His clothing and especially his trousers would have been dishevelled, wet and muddy. "We are appealing to anyone who knows who it is to ring us."

The girl was dragged over the railway line from Manchester Road on to the Hard Platts field at 9pm on Wednesday last week

She has told police she was taking her dog out for a walk when she noticed a man come out of Summer Street and use the pelican crossing to cross Manchester Road.

As he walked towards her she turned her back on him. He then grabbed her from behind putting his hand over her mouth to stop her screaming.

His hand smelled strongly of cigarettes.

He dragged her through the two gates of the railway path crossing and on to the field where he forced her to the ground and assaulted her subjecting her to a three minute ordeal.

After threatening her and her family the man then off.

She described him as white in his late teens or early twenties. He was wearing a dark coloured baseball cap, dark bubble jacket and beige trousers. He spoke with a local accent.

Det Sgt Simm said: "We believe that because of his local knowledge this is probably a local man."
