WASN'T that an amazing insight into the modern-day 'must have it now' mentality of many people -- when colleague David Higgerson put his new Sony PlayStation 2 computer games gizmo up for auction on the Internet and received bids of £1,500, some three times more than he paid?

But don't we have this sort of lark at Christmas every year nowadays -- when some new toy or product is said to be in short supply and folk panic and pay over the odds to ensure they get one?

Remember the scrambles for premium-priced Power Rangers, Tracy Island, Buzz Lightyear and Cabbage Patch Dolls?

Marketing hype to make sure the tills ring all the merrier? Maybe.

But what this shows and what I'm more sure of is that there will always be a glut of people with more money than sense.
