EMERGENCY services sealed off a sector of the town centre as firefighters tackled a blaze which ripped though the derelict drop-in centre for the homeless in Corporation Street, at around 2.15pm on Thursday, December 14.
Four fire engines attended the scene where it was believed people were trapped and the council arranged for a dangerous gable wall to be removed to give firefighters safe access to the premises.
The area around the site was closed to traffic, but no-one was found in the building.
Once the fire was put out, the council arranged for the former drop-in centre to be demolished.
