PRIZE money worth £200 is up for grabs with the launch of a new road rally championship for 2001.

The Lancashire Salvage Northern Road Rally Challenge, promoted by Clitheroe and district motor club, will see competitors tackle nine of the best events in the north of England.

First overall driver and navigator category will receive £50 each and trophy, with second overall driver and navigator and winning novice driver and navigator awarded £25 each and trophy.

"We decided there was room in the calendar for a new championship, and thanks to the support of Blackburn-based Lancashire Salvage, we expect it to be very popular," explained co-ordinator Terry Martin.

"The Challenge is open only to members of Clitheroe DMC, but we are offering nine no-nonsense, top quality rallies organised by competitors for competitors, with the best five scores to count.

"The first CDMC member home in each event will get 15 points, with 12 points for second, ten for third and so on. Anyone starting an event will get one point, and anyone helping with the organisation or marshalling on our own Hall Trophy rally will get ten points.

"All the awards will be presented to the winners at the club's annual presentation night in 2002.
