Clarets wing wizard Glen Little insists Burnley's season is still alive and kicking and hopes to be back to lend his support against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.

Burnley go into the game against second-placed Bolton at Turf Moor on the back of derby defeats to Preston and Blackburn Rovers.

But Little, recovering from a hamstring injury, is confident that the Clarets can bounce back and maintain a challenge for a top-six place.

He said: "We've lost two of our biggest games but we are still in a good position. It's better being where we are then being at the bottom of the league and beating Blackburn 2-0.

"And the good thing about the league is that you get two attempts. Preston have still got to come here and we've got to go to Blackburn to try and get revenge.

"If we get another 38 points from our next 22 games we will definitely be in with a shout, and I don't see why that can't happen.

"We have never been short of fighting qualities and the gaffer is not the type to throw in the towel."

Burnley slipped to ninth on the back of Sunday's defeat but are just a point behind sixth-placed Rovers, underlining Little's point that the Clarets remain in a healthy position if they can put some points on the board over the holiday programme.

He added: "To be fair to the boys they have been doing well and we've had some good wins. December was always going to be tough and we've been beaten fair and square a couple of times and we hold our hands up.

"I said at the start of the season that in this division you can maybe lose five or six on the trot and we've done well that that hasn't happened.

"People say it's the first time we've lost two in a row and we've got to put it right but we are still in a good position. We've got 38 points and if you'd said that at the start of the season that would have been great. If we get a couple of wins over Christmas we are practically safe.

"If we'd lost to two teams down south it might not have had the same effect but we've lost two of our biggest matches and hurt everyone's pride. But there are still big games to come and a lot to look forward to. Everybody is still in good spirits and we've got a lot to play for." Little has missed eight of Burnley's last 11 games because of hamstring trouble, including the derby clash with Rovers, but having resumed full training this week is keen to be involved against high-flying Bolton.

"I would have loved to have been out there but I've got to make sure it's right. The first time I came back it felt good but it went again so we have to be cautious," he said.

"Even if I was coming off the bench you can't get away with half measures. You've got to be 100 per cent with it and it would have been too much of a risk.

"But I've been training this week and hopefully I should be okay for Saturday. I'd like to think that if I have a good week with no set-backs I'll be in with a chance and then be back for good."

Boss Stan Ternent will also hope to have Lee Brsicoe fit and is trying to bring in a new face in time for the Christmas programme.

Meanwhile, the FA were today still waiting for a copy of referee Fraser Stretton's report into Sunday's clash with Rovers but neither club is expected to face any action over incidents during the game.
