THERE were too many candles to put on the cake but that never stopped Rose South having one of the best birthday celebrations of her life -- and she has had a lot to choose from!
The retired Salvation Army Major has just celebrated her 102nd birthday in style at a carol service at the Raikes Parade Citadel, Blackpool, with Postman Pat and her colleagues.
Rose, who lives in Cleveleys, has spent all her life working as a full time officer with the Salvation Army, including helping out during pit disasters in mining towns around Yorkshire before retiring 40 years ago.
Pictured helping Major Rose South celebrate her 102nd birthday are Postman Pat, Major Derek Tyrrell and junior soldiers from the Salvation Army.
