IN COMMON with many Bury supporters, I welcome the gesture from Accrington Stanley to hold a fund-raising game to help ease the Shakers' very real financial crisis.

In the article in the LET on Tuesday, December 19, the Stanley chairman Eric Whalley comments that: "There seems to be some apathy in Bury towards the football club."

Whilst this is patently true, many readers will be surprised or even shocked to learn that the club does not enjoy the actual promotion of the interests of the club in the media in the way which Burnley and Blackburn enjoy.

Bury does not have an evening newspaper, nor does it get any (significant) coverage on Radio GMR. Even though half of the Borough is in Radio Lancashire territory, it receives no coverage from that station either.

Can East Lancashire fans envisage what effect the absence of the LET and Radio Lancashire would mean in terms of publicity to their clubs? Magnify that effect over 30 years and you start to understand what Terry Robinson (BFC Chairman) is up against.

So thanks Eric and the Stanley Board, it's a pity Manchester United are not as generous in spirit as Stanley.
