BLACKBURN Hawks swooped for sweet revenge as they overcame Solway Sharks 4-2 in the Anglo-Scottish Cup clash at the Arena.
Having gone down 3-4 to their Scottish rivals in a tight battle at Dumfries back in October, the Hawks were determined to reverse the score on their own rink.
The Hawks, who were at full strength, took the first period 2-0. The Sharks pulled one back in the second session, but the Hawks remained in front with a 2-1 advantage in the final period.
Goals were scored by Mark McDonald, Chris Cheadle, Michael Brunton and player-coach Bobby Haig. Assists were supplied by Gordon Whyte, Dan Mackriel, McDonald and Cheadle.
Hawks Assistant Manager Mark Ward explained: "We started slowly this time, but then we found our direction. We knew it would be very physical - and it was! But we also knew they are a team we can beat. With a full squad, everyone was up for it, and we got the right result."
Defender Eddie Cooper is still under observation after receiving a head injury at work. He has had X-rays and will probably miss the next two games.
Ward said: "Obviously you cant be too careful following a blow to the head. Until Bobby or myself are sure Eddie has been given the all-clear, he will have to be sidelined."
The Hawks are currently enjoying a rich vein of form. With confidence in the Hawks nest soaring, they can look forward to a tough fixture after the Christmas break.
They face the long trip to Gillingham in Kent to fulfil a Premier Cup tie against top club Invicta Dynamos.
