THE final match of the Bury Societies current season, the ever-popular Fur and Feather match, attracted a field of 44 anglers on Sunday.

Parkers Lodge was filled to capacity, and even so, with a drop in temperature, the pegs at the shallow end still produced fish.

Top weight fell to match secretary Steve Kenyon, fishing peg 43, he had a weight of 6-15-8, which included a 3lb bream.

In second place, fishing peg 31, was Alan McAttee with 5-1-0 and in third fishing the shallows was Dave Chadwick with 4-0-12.

Section winners were Leon Green 3-7-8, Ronnie Buckley 3-7-8, John Holt 3-13-4 and Darren Smith 3-0-0. The total weight of fish caught was over 100lbs.

After the weigh-in, the presentation of prizes took place at Bury Bridge Workingmens Club with welcome refreshments provided.

Also on Sunday, the Leeds-Liverpool canal at Rishton was the venue for the Hyndburn and Blackburn Open.

Small silver fish, taken on bread punch, dominated the match. Top weight fell to Carl Blurton (Ted Carter Southport) 3-1-0. In second place was Damian Brierley (Team Hyndburn Blackburn) 2-11-0 and third was J Rodgers (Tri Cast Highfield) 2-10-0.
