SINGLE people are to be asked by finance bosses if they have acquired a partner yet!
Some 27,000 households in the borough, more than one in three, are claiming a 25 per cent single person discount on their council tax bills.
Town hall officers have now started an annual review where they write to thousands of residents asking them to confirm whether they are still entitled to the discount.
They estimate that around 400 people will come off the list this coming year.
They say that it is the responsibility of people who rightly claimed the benefit to tell the council if their circumstances change.
