Leigh RU 12 Oldershaw 13 LEIGH RU were left to rue a whole series of missed opportunities as they went down by a single point at home to Oldershaw.

Leigh trailed 13-0 early in the second half but despite a spirited fightback, they found the lead too much to overhaul.

Leigh had begun slowly and conceded a string of penalties. Oldershaw converted one penalty and from another set up the position from where they scored a try and goal to lead 10-0.

Leigh scorned a penalty opportunity on their first attack when instead of accepting the three points on offer, they went for a tap penalty which didn't bring the try they were after.

Several other Leigh attempts to run the ball in the heavt conditions came to nothing and their tactics in the conditions were questionable.

The half time deficit of 10-0 became one of 13-0 as Oldershaw accepted another gift penalty.

Refereeing decisons continued to go against the home side but eventually a fine break from Whittle saw the forwards drive for the line and Bailey claimed the touchdown. But the simple conversion was missed.

Leigh were finally on top at this stage but their forwards drives were thwarted by the visitors' offside tactics which went unpunished. In a late surge, Haste made a clean break to put Lee under the posts for a try converted by Higson.
