POLICE have stepped up patrols following a spate of burglaries in Rossendale.
Inspector Ewan Cameron said: "I would urge residents to ensure that windows and doors are kept locked and that they use their house alarm if they have one.
"I would also appeal to anybody who witnesses anything suspicious to contact local police on 01282 425001 or if they have information about a crime call Crimestoppers free and in confidence on 0800 555 111."
Police are particularly keen for information about a man, or possibly two men, who have been knocking on doors in the Whitworth area pretending to ask for directions.
Insp Cameron said: "Public help is vital if we are to crack crime this Christmas. If anybody knows anything, no matter how insignificant it may seem they should contact us immediately."
