CARETAKER manager Eric Winstanley guided Barnsley to their first win in five games at Burnley's expense, but admitted he was ready to settle for a second goalless draw since moving into the Oakwell hot-seat.

The former Tykes playing legend replaced Dave Bassett on a temporary basis a week ago and Chris Morgan gave him his first three points when seizing on a Burnley slip-up to volley home the 89th-minute winner.

It was also Barnsley's first goal in five games and came just as Winstanley was ready to shake on a share of the spoils.

He said: "I would have been happy with that to be fair. You are just hoping you get the chance to settle it.

"There were one or two chances we could probably have converted but you've got to be fair and it looked as though it was going to be a draw.

"You take anything at that stage though and for Chris Morgan to come up with that goal was brilliant."

It was Morgan's first goal of the season and to Winstanley's dismay cost him a booking when the defender peeled off his shirt to celebrate. "I think the supporters must have enjoyed the game. The atmosphere was terrific and why not celebrate when you've scored a goal that matters so much at the end of the game?

"But you were lucky, I thought he was going to take his shorts off!" said the stand-in boss, who has taken on the caretaker mantle at Oakwell for the fifth time.

He would like the job on a permanent basis but reckons now is not the time to consider his position.

His first job is to guide Barnsley away from the danger zone and he was pleased to get past the Clarets and move within a couple of places of Stan Ternent's side. He added: "I knew from the start that Burnley would be stiff opponents. They work hard and they are physically hard. I saw them the other week and I was impressed with that.

"In games like that you can only play when you get the chance to play and they wouldn't give you that. We had to battle and earn the right to play. It was difficult. They are a good side and their League position shows that."
