Clarets defender Matty Heywood is wanted by Swindon Town.

Heywood spent some time with the Second Division strugglers last week and played for their reserves in a 2-1 win over Leyton Orient.

And the 21-year-old did enough to impress Robins boss Andy King, who followed up his interest with an offer for the former Clarets trainee.

Burnley boss Stan Ternent seems ready to allow Heywood to move on to further his career and it's now up to the player to decide whether to move to the County Ground.

Heywood hasn't figured in the first-team at Turf Moor for the past couple of seasons with Steve Davis, Mitchell Thomas, Ian Cox and Gordon Armstrong all barring his path.

However, the big centre-half did well when pitched into the fray for a run of games in the 1998/99 campaign when he made 13 League starts and could see this as an opportunity to re-launch a promising career.

Swindon are in the bottom four of the Second Division and King wants Heywood to help shore up a leaky defence, although if he moves south he won't link up again with former Burnley midfielder Mark Robertson, who has left the club he joined in the summer.
