BIBBY Distribution is right on course with plans to double turnover to £150m over five years after new business increased last year's figure by 20 per cent to £87m.

The company -- which runs a global operation for Ineoa Acrylics from Walker Park in Blackburn -- announced its ambitious growth plans in 1999 before buying Stoke-on-Trent- based Route One Distribution and acquiring another small Potteries business.

Both deals helped Bibby enter 2001 in a healthy position which saw the logistics specialists pick up new business in several sectors such as high-value fragile products, food and drink manufacturing, DIY and the rail industry.

Now the company is aiming to continue that level of growth by further developing existing contractors and building on a track record of converting new business opportunities.

Managing director Theo de Pencier said: "The past year has been exciting for Bibby Distribution.

"We set out with ambitious plans to grow the business, both organically and by acquisition, and that is exactly what we have done.

"New business worth £15m means that we are entering 2001 in a healthy position as we aim for continued growth.

"Our business development team has performed very strongly and there are already a number of leads which we hope to convert into more new business early in 2001.

"Bibby Distribution has a distinct advantage in a market place which likes quick responses -- being privately-owned we have a very flatstructure which speeds up decision making.

"Our customers like the fact that we are flexibile, responsive and are prepared to invest our own money into a relationship and take a long-term view."
