EX-HEROIN addicts performed a play about the dangers of addiction to teenagers at St Bede's RC High School.

The four former drug users from the Blackburn charity THOMAS, Those on the Margins of a Society, showed how drug use could lead to debt, gun violence and murder.

Teacher Maureen Leaver said the "In Your Face" drama group proved a very effective way of getting over the drugs message.

The play was part of the school's HIV and drug awareness day for more than 200 Year Ten children, aged 14 and 15.

Mrs Lever said: "As a Catholic school, we feel that we have a responsibility to ensure that our pupils are aware of the problems of drugs, addiction and HIV in the modern world. We talked about sex being based on respect and love and not being exploitative. We want our pupils to have both understanding and compassion."
