Blackpool 6 Scunthorpe 0 By Chris Reece: Scorers: Simpson 11, Murphy 16, 66, Wellens 14, Reid 59, Milligan 62 AFTER a great week for Blackpool FC off the pitch, the players put the cherry on the cake with a fantastic display on the pitch.

The Seasiders tore apart Scunthorpe virtually straight from the kick-off.

After just 15 minutes Pool were 3-0 up, and Scunthorpe a man down after Steve Torpey was sent off for a finger-tip save on the goal-line.

Steve McMahon welcomed back Paul Simpson from injury and kept faith with Richard Wellens, who played the game in boots once owned by David Beckham!

With Paul Simpson opening the scoring with a penalty after the handball incident, he found Brett Ormerod on the right just sixty seconds later, who crossed low for John Murphy to score with a sliding shot into the roof of the net.

Before Scunthorpe had the chance to regroup Richard Wellens added another by finishing off a training pitch free kick routine involving John Murphy and again Paul Simpson. Scunthorpe finally woke up and they were unlucky not to grab a goal back on 17 minutes after a goalmouth scramble. But Pool's confidence was sky high as Pool made the game look like training ground kick about.

In one instance Ormerod nearly finished off a brilliant move but his long-range effort hit the post.

Pool burst back into life in the second half and grabbed a fourth goal after a short corner when the ball was crossed to John Murphy in the box. Under pressure he could only head it towards the back post where Brian Reid tapped in his second goal for the Seasiders.

Minutes later Brett Ormerod, desperate for a goal came close but his header was brilliantly saved after a cross from the left by John Hills. But Pool did get a fifth just a minute later with a Mike Milligan half-volley following a Murphy miss-hit to secure his first goal in Tangerine colours. The next goal came shortly after a powerful shot by Ormerod was saved, the ball fell to John Murphy with his back to goal. Under pressure from a defender he managed to scrape the ball into the net. Scunthorpe picked themselves up again. But Ian Hughes and Brian Reid were in no mood to let anything past them and along with Phil Barnes, they squashed any threat.

Adam Nowland was brought on to add a new dimension to the attack with his mazy runs and quick feet but Scunthorpe managed to salvage some pride in the last 20 minutes.

Poor Ormerod looked desperate for a goal, as were the supporters who somewhat greedily chanted for a seventh! But after three minutes of injury time it was all over and the players were deservedly cheered off the pitch.

It was the biggest win for over a decade and it wouldn't be surprising if the bookmakers revised their odds on Monday morning for a Blackpool promotion!
