VALENTINE'S Day came early for Radcliffe's Joanne Turner who was named the Bury Times Bride of the Year.

Joanne (25) of Clyde Road was cheered on by her fiance Craig Davenport, the couples' 18-month-old daughter, Hannah, and Joanne's proud parents.

She was one of eight finalists chosen by our readers and an independent panel of judges had a tough time selecting just one of the beautiful brides-to-be as the overall winner.

The announcement that Joanne was successful was the highlight of Sunday's (Feb 11) Bury Times Newspaper Group Spring Bridal spectacular at the Bolholt Country Park Hotel.

Catwalk shows, hair and make-up demonstrations and more than 50 wedding show exhibitors all ensured the hundreds of visitors had all the advice and information needed to make their own special day a perfect occasion. Joanne, who plans to marry her boyfriend at Christ Church, Ainsworth on August 11, said: "We couldn't believe it when I won. We were absolutely delighted. It was a bit nervewracking beforehand but it was worth it. I've never won anything before."

Among a whole host of prizes, she won £300 towards a dress from Bridal Couture Italia, a Hen party and champagne from Sol Viva, £50 towards a three tier wedding cake from Classy Cakes, the Bolholt Country Park's Bridal Suite, and a £250 canvas framed wall portrait by Vicky Leanne Photography.

Joanne, who is a full-time mum, said: "It was such a lovely occasion and a really good day out for anyone who is planning to get married."

Special publications manager for the Bury Times Group, Julie Wheeler, said: "As always, it was a very good show and even better attended than usual despite the weather. There was a lot of support from the local business community."
