DETECTIVES in Bamber Bridge are hunting two men who robbed a couple in their fifties at gunpoint.

The terrifying ordeal started around 9.45pm on Monday evening (February 12) as the two men knocked at the couple's home on Schoolfield, Bamber Bridge.

The men burst into the house and held the couple captive as they searched for valuables.

While one of them pointed a gun at them, his accomplice ransacked the house and stole a large quality of jewellery -- including diamond engagements rings and gold watches -- as well as a substantial amount of alcohol, tobacco and perfume.

Although the couple were not subjected to actual violence during the ordeal, police and other agencies have offered support through counselling.

The two men also stole the couple's MGF convertible -- registration W707 XFV -- which was recovered on St George's Street in Preston on Tuesday evening. One robber is described as white, 5ft 8ins tall, medium build, dark hair and wearing a black woollen hat and a black zip-up jacket which hid part of his face.

The second is white, of thin build, 5ft tall, with a spotty complexion. He was wearing dark clothing, gloves, a jacket with a motif and white trainers.

DS Damian Wignall, from Wheelton CID, said: "Our enquiries are currently being centred on the Clayton Brook, Preston and Chorley areas.

"If anyone has any information regarding this crime, please phone Lancashire police or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
