ATHERTON'S longest serving club steward Malc Atkinson has died, aged 54.
Malc, host at the Botanical Gardens Club since December 1988, lost his battle with cancer last Saturday at the Christie Hospital.
He had been taken ill before Christmas and gone in to Christie's after an initial spell at Hope Hospital. The popular steward was a keen gardener and with his partner, Kath, had a six-strong family comprising of Jacquelyn, Paul, Karl, Jason, David and Steve.
The funeral took place on Friday at Howe Bridge with a reception afterwards at the Tyldesley Road club.
